About Us
Our journey From White Umfolosi to Amavevane Acapella Street
Born in 1996
As White Umfolosi Performing Arts
The origins of our journey are marked by conflicting accounts. Some assert that we suffered a 6-0 defeat in a soccer match, while others claim it was 6-2 or even 4-2. Regardless of the specifics, this loss inspired Mr. Lucious Ncube to remove us from the field, ultimately guiding us toward a new passion that would evolve into a lifelong commitment.
Under the mentorship of the world-renowned Black Umfolosi, we honed our skills in dance and singing, thus emerging as White Umfolosi. This experience rekindled our appreciation for our heritage, leading us to embrace the cultural traditions and music of our ancestors as we embarked on a career in African Imbube.
Milestones
Welcome to Amavevane Acapella, formerly known as White Umfolosi Performing Arts. We are a dynamic 10-member male ensemble that came together in 1996. Our journey began at Ngwana Primary School, where our coach, Mr. Lucious Ncube guided us from the soccer field to the world of Imbube/Isicathamiya singing.
Under his mentorship, we honed our skills through primary and secondary schooling at Matjinge Secondary School, participating in local competitions and ceremonies. Our notable performances include singing for former President Mugabe and the Queen of England.
After secondary school, we relocated to koNtuthuziyathunqa, basing ourselves in Entumbane. We have performed alongside renowned groups such as Black Umfolosi, IYASA, Imbizo, Umkhathi Theatre, and Indosakusa (formerly Impumelelo Shining Stars), and many more.
Despite life’s challenges and economic demands, we moved to South Africa, where we continued to perform while seeking employment. We have preserved our cultural roots and traditional dances to this day.
In 2016, we embraced evolution and became Amavevane Acapella, symbolized by the transformation of a butterfly. Today, we continue to sing and perform at various gatherings, social celebrations, and mourning events, catering to all occasions.
Our performances include Imbube/Iscathamiya singing, Gumboot, Umchongoyo, Amabhiza, and Isitshikitsha dances. We recently released an album titled “Endleleni Enzima,” reflecting the global struggles of hunger, war, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Our hit single “Kubukalanga” has gained widespread acclaim and is celebrated as the Kalanga Anthem on social media.
Join us on our musical journey and experience the unifying and healing power of music.

Our Initiatives
We have initiated the Enkundleni Yamavevane Podcast, which is currently hosted on WhatsApp. This platform was established to engage, entertain, and inform our members. Our mission includes inviting esteemed public figures, such as the renowned Albert Nyathi, Freddie Gwala, and Nani Ntengo, to join our WhatsApp group for a day. During their participation, we conduct interviews, after which they exit the group following their engagement with our followers.
